Testing the first canning module

We are testing the first module of our canning line before adding the label machine and packing module. Right now the goal is simple: make the machine move cleanly, handle cans properly and avoid turning aluminium into modern art.

One module down, two to go

We have started testing the first module of our canning line.

Right now, there are no labels, no neatly packed cases and no glamorous “ready for the shelf” moment. Just the first module, a lot of small adjustments and a machine with very strong opinions about timing, pressure and whether a can is standing exactly where it should be.

This is the first part of a three-module setup. The next steps are the label machine and the packing module, but before we invite more machinery to the party, the basics need to work.

Why this matters

Canning looks simple when everything works: can in, beer in, lid on, can out.

In reality, it is a small mechanical choreography of sensors, guide rails, hoses, pneumatics and moving parts. Everything has to agree at the same time, preferably without turning a perfectly good can into a tiny aluminium accordion.

At this stage, we are testing movement, alignment and repeatability. Speed can wait. First, we want the machine to become boring in the best possible way.

Current status

The first module is alive, and that is a good start.

It moves, it handles cans, and it is already generating the kind of process notes that future us will be grateful for — while current us wonders why one adjustment always creates three new things to check.

Next step is to tighten the setup, reduce the manual fiddling and make the process more consistent. After that, the label machine and packing module can join in.

For now, we celebrate every can that goes through straight, calm and without drama.
